Inset Days for School Year 2020 / 2021
Inset Days seem to be one of those parts of school life that confuse many people outside of the education sector. It stands for In-Service Training and the days were first introduced in 1988 as dedicated training sessions for school staff. Contrary to popular belief the number of days the children have in school was not reduced. The time is used for focused staff training and is linked with the school’s plans for improving teaching and learning or might allow for whole staff work on such things as Safeguarding or responding to the latest Government initiative!
At Riddings Junior School we collapse two of the training days and spread them across the year so that we can have a 2 and a half hour training session after the school day every half term. The other days are then planned across the year. This year our training time will be used to improve the teaching of Reading, of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, to improve our use of ongoing assessment and for Safeguarding.
Inset day Wednesday 2nd September 2020 - School closed to pupils
Inset day Friday 4th December 2020 – School closed to pupils
Inset day Monday 4th January 2021 - School closed to pupils
Inset day Monday 15th March 2021 - School closed to pupils
Inset day Thursday 22nd July 2021 - School closed to pupils
The date of one further Inset day is to be confirmed
In previous years we have worked with Riddings Infant and Nursery school to set our training days on the same dates. Due to changes that we wish to implement in response to Ofsted’s latest inspection guidance we have, over the last two years been holding Inset days when they best support our own curriculum developments and as such not all days will be shared with the infants school .
